Teff (Eragrostis teff) is a cereal grain from Ethiopia and Eritrea in Africa. It’s an ancient grain believed to have been domesticated around 4000 and 1000 BCE and is the smallest grain in the world. Teff is used in lots of ways such as in beer, as a thickener in soups and sauces, in porridge, pudding, baked goods, breads and flatbreads, and as a rice substitute. Because teff grains are so small, it is hard to remove the bran and germ during milling, meaning teff flour is almost always whole grain flour.
Teff flour is naturally gluten-free and is good for gut health. Since teff is packed with nutrients, minerals and nutrients, consider it a safe and more nutritious option to add to your diet. It is also particularly rich in insoluble dietary fibre, which stays mostly undigested in your gut, meaning it causes your stool to bulk up and can help with regular bowel movements. Teff is also rich in iron, helping carry oxygen throughout the body. This could be excellent for pregnant women who culd have lowered iron levels
